After all the excitement, anticipation and planning, my vacation has now come and gone. I’ve been home for a week from our family vacation to Oahu and still haven’t reconnected to my old routine. Perhaps that’s a good thing? Time to change things up and keep in the Aloha mood for as long as possible.
One of the things I was most excited about while out-of-town, was cooking for myself at least 95% of the time. Finding a room that has a kitchen, or at least microwave and refrigerator, is a huge convenience when eating a specific way. Luckily, our room had a full-blown kitchen, pots & pans, utensils, refrigerator, oven, etc. It was a beautiful thing. Of course, I was on vacation and not necessarily always in the mood to cook a huge breakfast, so I mainly survived on mug cakes for breakfast as well as dessert. They’re so easy to make, minimal dish washing as well as only a few supplies needed.
If you’re leaving town and want to cook for yourself, be sure to see where the nearest grocer is that carries items you will need, otherwise, plan ahead and pack. I was fortunate enough to find a store around the corner that carried coconut flour and several other grain-free items I needed.
The most memorable moment while on vacation was my morning ritual. Every morning at 9am, my husband and I would walk out to the manmade lagoon at our resort. On average we would see a few couples, but that was it. Most people slept in and didn’t arrive to the water ‘til way after 11am. For a few brief hours we practically had this tiny slice of paradise to ourselves.
He and I would walk into the clear warm water, swim in opposite directions, flip onto our backs and let the morning sun shine upon us while the gentle waves just pushed us around the lagoon. During this time we were both meditating, setting our intentions for the day and expressing gratitude for what we were experiencing. Eventually, we would swim back to each other , then back to shore and read in silence in our tiny cabanas.
Those morning floats in the Pacific really set the tone for the day. Weightless on the water, releasing all my fears and anxiety and breathing in a fresh new start.
Now, back in Los Angeles, I’m back into the simple cooking routine, but still searching for my lagoon. Floating in my tub isn’t quite the same.
To share the Aloha, I’m giving away a few goodies I collected while on vacation. These are items I loved having while away. Don’t worry, these are duplicates, I didn’t use these exact items 😉
